Wakan African Sage Sinbajé
CD, CDX, UD, NA, NAJ, OA, OAJ, AX, NAC, NJC, OAC, CGC
12/21/1996 - 11/23/2003

Sage was diagnosed in September 2003 with autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA). She bravely battled this condition with some pretty toxic immunosupressant drugs. In November 2003, with her AIHA almost in control, her liver took umbrage to the onslaught of toxic medication.  Sage died peacefully at home of apparent liver failure, secondary to AIHA. Please note:this is NOT the genetic HA - Sage was DNA tested clear for that disease.

Gone too soon, not yet seven
They whispered from the gates of heaven,
"This is where Sage needs to be"
So in my heart I set you free
That very night you left my side
Leaving me saddened, teary-eyed
I love you Sage, 'til we meet again
So long for now, my trusted friend

This is how I will always remember Sage - always near me, watching me, being silly.

Career Highlights
CONFORMATION:
Sage was a very high percent Avongara (62%) which showed in her well laid back shoulders, her rear angulation and her slightly longer back.  Though she went winners bitch and/or best of winners on 8 separate occasions for a total of 13 AKC championship points, the majors were rather elusive.  Being excellent in performance venues, she retired from conformation to focus on those endeavors.
When younger we did play around with the International Shows and Sage was able to get her UCICB CH en route to a Hound Group Three - the interesting thing was Sage was the only non-AKC champion hound in the group.
OBEDIENCE:
Sage was a dream come true in obedience.  She showed in AKC Novice B seven times, and earned seven placements (never finishing lower than 3rd place).  Her average score was a 192.5.
Her run for her UKC-CD was even better - three legs in three tries, highest score a 197 which was good enough for HIT over seasoned AKC obedience trial champion (OTCH) border collies and golden retrievers!  The highlight of her career, for me, was winning the Novice B class in our first attempt over professional handler & trainer Kay Guetzloff and her Heelalong Border Collies. Having friends ringside cheering us on only made it sweeter.
Sage went on to get her AKC-CDX in a handful of  trials; her AKC-UD in another handful, all with first placements, after the birth of her boys.  She was shown in both Open B and Utility B a total of 3 or 4 times and earned herself one UDX leg, along with a HIT and a HC for her efforts.  Sage died before we could persue her UDX quest.
In 1998 Sage was the #1 obedience basenji and the #7 obedience hound in the Nation.
AGILITY:
Sage had multiple legs and placements in all of her AKC and NADAC agility venues.
